Baltic Sea ESC Vol Team ReBlue Gotland Sweden 6.-22.9.2026ReBlue ESC volunteering team is part of the project called Concrete Deeds for the Baltic Sea and it takes place in Gotland island in Sweden. ReBlue team engages participants with topics such as sustainability, climate anxiety, and social justice through youth empowerment and competence building. ReBlue is hosted in Suderbyn, a vegan ecovillage on the Swedish island of Gotland that focuses on building a more sustainable future through social justice, collaboration and intentional community living with people from across Europe. The participants will see from up close what community living looks like and, obviously, the LGBTQ+ and neurodivergence friendly environment is extended to all participants joining ReBlue! The shared (working) language in this international community is English. You can read more about Suderbyn here: https://suderbyn.se/ During ReBlue the participant shall engage with issues in- and outside of Suderbyn. A capstone project involving both sustainable construction methods and permaculture garden principles will be prepared, aiming to, ultimately, provide the participants with useful knowledge and skills to take home and disseminate in their local communities. During the project participants will, both theoretically and practically, learn about a variety of topics; permaculture, low-tech sustainable building, vegan cooking, and project management are a few examples. Finally, the participants conclude their ReBlue experience with the accomplishment of sustainability-driven improvements for both the Gotlandic and Suderbyn community. Participants will also be invited to take part in Eco-emotions, a pilot training, between the 11th- 13th September. The aim of the training is to learn, together, the skills needed to navigate a time of multiple crises, to strengthen agency and psychological resilience, and to try out tools for dealing with eco-emotions. Eco-emotions refer to the various feelings relating to the climate, environmental change and nature. The training is mainly aimed at those who work with young people now or will do so in the future, such as youth workers, teachers, educators and students in these fields. Accommodation and food
Suderbyn is a vegan community, meaning all communal food is vegan and breakfast and lunch are cooked communally and shared.
Participants may choose to be vegetarian (e.g. dairy products, eggs), but at their own cost and effort.
As a space of transformation, participants are very much invited to try out veganism during their stay, if they have not had the opportunity to do so yet! The storage and consumption of animal meat is prohibited.
During ReBlue participants share a dorm-style room in one of our big spaces, called the ‘meditation room’. The meditation room is secluded from any other sleeping spaces, giving the participants a place to draw back if desired. All bedclothes will be provided.
An additional spacious room in an upper barn of Suderbyn, the ‘Aula’, will be allocated as a cosy social space for ReBlue participants to use during their stay.
Location
Suderbyn is located 9Km south of Visby, one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe as well as part of the UNESCO world heritage list. Easily reachable by bus or bike, the city offers several points of interest and activities, from the historic centre between cobbled streets and ancient ruins to the Gotland museum, shops, parks and cafès. The ecovillage is also a short walk away from a small forest and the shore of the baltic sea, with a stony beach readily accessible and a sandy beach further south.
Please note that Suderbyn is not only a place of growth and learning, but it is also a home for its residents. Respect and non violent, open communication is expected and any kind of discrimination is not tolerated (bigotry, misogyny, racism, ableism, anti-lgbtq+, etc.).
Terminal
There are daily ferries run by destination gotland, from Oskarshamn and Nynäshamn to Visby (‘Capital’ of Gotland, 9km North of Suderbyn). From there, participants can take bus 10 to the ecovillage or request a pick up from the ferry terminal. Nynäshamn is just over an hour South of Stockholm by train. Distance from Stockholm in a straight line: 194km.

Concrete Deeds for the Baltic Sea project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps VTHPA and open for 18-30 year old citizens and permanent residents of Estonia, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Sweden as well as Greece, Serbia and Ukraine. Participation is free of charge, as well as board and lodging. Volunteers need to stay the full duration of the project in order to get pocket money (5€ per day) and travel cost reimbursed (28-395 euros depending on the distance). More info on the project here
Participant profile
Young people who are passionate about environmental issues, sustainability, alternative lifestyles and sustainable co-living.
The volunteers` intentions should aim towards co-creating a safe environment for learning and sharing with the other participants while contributing to the ecovillage and outside community. Suderbyn places great value on gender equality, we try our best to deconstruct behavioral patterns that do not serve the purpose of empowering each other and avoiding hurt.
We welcome applications from people who are not afraid of physical work and like to stay in simple shared accommodation conditions.
We encourage application from young people with less opportunities due to economic, social ,geographical or other barriers.
Please note that drinking alcohol, using drugs is prohibited in the camp.
