Team activities
The volunteers will learn about the Baltic Sea, the measures taken to protect it and what is needed to be done. The volunteers will join Europe Day activities sharing information on Europan programs and Baltic Sea, take part in litter clean ups and other environmental actions together with the local people.
The volunteers will work several days with the World Village festival organised by Fingo ry (read more here). The festival is a large sustainable event open for all raising global challenges and solutions, increases people’s understanding and provides concrete ways to take action to create change. During the weekend 16.-17.5. there will be plenty of program such as topical discussions, workshops and concerts and civil society organisations presenting their work. World Village Festival is committed to environmental efforts ,striving to recycle all waste associated with the event. More info about environmental efforts can be found here.
Volunteer tasks related to WV festival
The volunteers of the festival will carry out different tasks starting with building the festival, carrying fences , setting up tents, installing signs and banners and helping with area decoration. During the festival days volunteers are needed in the cleaning team which keeps the festival area tidy and in the recycling team which takes care that the different types of waste end in right containers. After the festival, the volunteers work with take-down work carrying again fences and taking down banners and signs. .
Accommodation
The volunteers will be accommodated in a shared flat. The host will provide meals during the festival working days and other times the volunteers will cook by themselves. Food provided will be plant-based. The volunteers should be flexible with simple living conditions and communal living (cooking and cleaning together).
Location
The volunteering team will be organized in Helsinki, which is the capital of Finland. It is a beautiful and green city with over 600 000 inhabitants and located by the Baltic sea. You can easily travel to Helsinki by airplane or ferry. We encourage travelling by land (and sea).
Participant information
Project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps and open for 18-30 year old citizens and permanent residents of Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Poland, Sweden as well as Greece, Serbia and Ukraine.
We encourage application from young people with less opportunities due to economic, social ,geographical or other barriers.s.
Participation is free of charge, as well as board and lodging. Volunteers need to stay the full duration of the project in order to get pocket money (7€ per day) and travel cost reimbursed (28-395 euros depending on the distance).
We are looking for 5 volunteers who will be chosen based on the application below. Fill in the form in English language. Please note that we are choosing the participants based on their own ideas and genuine motivation (without use of AI).
