Sound of Forest

The volunteering team “Sound of Forest”came to an end! During two weeks participants learned a lot about forests and plants of Punkaharju region. They learned about saimaa seals 🦭 and even tried to spot one in the Linnansaari national park, cleaned neighbourhood area from invasive plants, helped organise sport event in Oravi and intercultural event in Itä-Karjalan Kansanopisto.

Volunteers also had enough time to embrace Finnish traditions: they went to sauna, swam in the lake, baked pulla and tasted salmon soup. For many participants it was first time in Finland 🇫🇮 and they enjoyed it to the fullest!🌲

For example, Giaime from italy says “It was my first time in Finland, but for sure not the last. I very much enjoyed the nature, the atmosphere and the silence.” 🇮🇹

In the pictures, you can also see a tattoo taken by a volunteer, which she wanted as a memory to remember her time in Finland! She describes the tattoo like this:

“I really enjoyed my trip to Finland and my experience as a volunteer to protect the local fauna and flora! The ringed saimaa seal was a new species for me I never heard of before, and getting a tattoo of this animal I love was for me a way to express my gratefulness towards this project and what I learned during it ❤️”

We wish participants nice summer and hope to them again in upcoming volunteering teams 🔥
