Haihatus Art 25y Jubilee Camp, 25.5.-17.6.

Host organization

Haihatus Art Center and Residency is an inspiring, relaxed, and international art center and residence, that hosts different kinds of cultural events. Haihatus is a communal place where art, in all of its forms, is the driving force. The art center and residence is a non-profit organization that is run by volunteers’ and artists’ help.

This year Haihatus is celebrating its 25-year journey with a special exhibition focusing on conversations brought forward from spaces traditionally left on the margins in contemporary art's national and international contexts, which the volunteers’ tasks will revolve around.

Volunteers' tasks

The volunteers' practical tasks will be helping with the construction and setting up of the summer exhibition, cleaning, restoration of outdoor sculptures, as well as landscaping and gardening. It would be nice if some applicants have Interest towards  photography/video documenting or cooking for big groups.  Volunteers are also encouraged to explore their creative side together while in this inspiring environment!

The accommodation will be in shared rooms, for the first week in an old school building 10 km from the working place and for the second week in a local hostel in the city center. The volunteers  are expected to be ready for communal living in basic conditions.

Food will be cooked either in the accommodation locations or the workplace by the volunteers, the food will be plant-based and it's cooked in small teams by the group.

Description of the area

Joutsa is a municipality with a population of roughly 4 300 people in Central Finland, the area is also nicknamed “Lake-Finland” due to the high amount of lakes. The area of Joutsa includes a total of 192 lakes! Despite being a rather small municipality, there is a number of nature attractions, ample possibilities for exercise, saunas and beaches for swimming, a movie theater, small thrift shop, local history museum and other establishments to visit on free time.
