Description of host organisation, aims, activities

The host organisation Kasvajat aims at promoting the wellbeing of individuals, communities and whole society. It works to change attitudes towards mental wellbeing. The organisation wants to share information on how to develop services to improve the wellbeing of people and by people who have experiential knowledge. This project is carried out by residents and active people who take care of Stockfors Village mainly on a voluntary basis. 

Stockfors  is a former industrial area with historical buildings which is being converted to a wellness village by local active people. They want everyone to feel welcome and are committed to growth as a person. They  are more than happy to get this opportunity to welcome the international volunteers to their community. 

Description of the work 

Gardening, cleaning halls, preparing the whole area for the summer activities such as art exhibition, summer shop, cafe. The volunteers will assist in many practical tasks such as moving furniture and doing some construction work etc. to maintain and tidy the area for the summer. The volunteers should be ready to do a variety of tasks including physical work and get their hands dirty, but no special skills are required. 

Accommodation 

Accommodation is organized in a shared accommodation in the attic which is in summer use. Every volunteer has their own nook with mattress, blanket and pillow. There is a bathroom, sauna and kitchen in the same building.  During events volunteers are able to eat the food that our chef cooks and on other days we will make sure that volunteers have everything needed to cook their own meals. The food will be mainly vegetarian.

Description of the area

Stockfors is  a large historical factory area which is becoming a wellness village. There are  different kinds of activities coming up such as wellness events, art exhibition, summer shop and cafe etc. Pyhtaa is a municipality between Kotka and Loviisa in the south coast of Finland.

In the freetime there is the possibility to visit local art exhibitions, go to sauna and swim, see movies in the community house, play frisbeegolf or other summer activities as well as just relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Connections

Pyhtaa is a municipality between Kotka and Loviisa in the south coast of Finland. It takes  about 90 minutes from Helsinki to Pyhtaa. The hosts will pick up the volunteers from the bus stop.
